New clinical model combines comprehensive psychological testing with multidisciplinary observation to improve diagnostic clarity before long-term treatment.
AUSTIN, TX, UNITED STATES, September 9, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Behavioral healthcare often requires individuals and families to make significant treatment decisions before clinicians have had enough time to understand the full clinical picture.
For those who have experienced conflicting diagnoses, multiple treatment episodes or complex combinations of mental health, substance use, trauma and neurodivergence, one fundamental question can remain unanswered:
What is actually going on?
Foundation Stone Family of Programs believes that question deserves an answer before another long-term treatment commitment is made.
Today, the Texas-based behavioral healthcare organization announced the launch of SAT℠ (Stabilize • Assess • Treat), a residential Diagnostic Assessment & Stabilization Program designed to provide individuals, families and treatment teams with greater diagnostic clarity and a more informed roadmap for care.
SAT represents a different approach to complex behavioral healthcare assessment: stabilize the individual, take the time to understand the whole person, and then determine what treatment should come next.
Unlike an assessment conducted primarily through testing and interviews at a single point in time, SAT combines comprehensive psychological testing with psychiatric evaluation, medical assessment, therapeutic observation, family-systems evaluation and ongoing collaboration among a multidisciplinary clinical team throughout a structured residential experience.
Clinicians are able to consider not only assessment results, but also how an individual regulates emotions, engages in treatment, responds to interventions, interacts with others and functions over time.
This allows assessment findings to be considered alongside longitudinal, real-world clinical observation, context that a single outpatient evaluation may not capture.
“For years, we have watched families come to us searching for answers,” said Marsha Stone, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Foundation Stone Family of Programs. “Many have experienced multiple diagnoses, multiple treatment programs and multiple opinions, yet they’re still asking the same question: ‘What is really going on?’ We created SAT because people deserve clarity before commitment. When we truly understand the person, we can build a treatment plan that reflects who they are not simply the symptoms they’re presenting.”
At the center of the SAT clinical model is licensed clinical psychologist Dr. Todd Corelli, whose expertise in comprehensive psychological assessment helped shape the program’s framework.
“Assessment is much more than assigning a diagnosis,” said Dr. Todd Corelli, Ph.D., Licensed Clinical Psychologist. “It’s about understanding how cognition, personality, trauma, emotional regulation, medical history and environment interact to influence someone’s life. With SAT, psychological testing is not interpreted in isolation. It is considered alongside the observations of an experienced multidisciplinary team, allowing us to develop a more complete clinical picture and make more informed recommendations.”
The SAT model brings together psychologists, psychiatrists, physicians, therapists, nursing professionals, wellness specialists and family clinicians in a collaborative assessment process designed to understand how an individual functions beyond the testing environment.
Each participant receives an individualized clinical roadmap that may include comprehensive psychological testing, psychiatric evaluation, medication review, family consultation, diagnostic clarification and personalized recommendations for ongoing care.
“The SAT Program is the culmination of decades of clinical observation across our leadership team and one question we’ve continually returned to: How do we truly understand someone before deciding how to treat them?” said Haley Sola, Vice President of Strategy for Foundation Stone Family of Programs. “We believe the answer isn’t found in a single evaluation or one clinician’s perspective. It comes from bringing comprehensive assessment, multidisciplinary collaboration and real-world observation together over time. That philosophy became the foundation for SAT.”
The launch of SAT reflects Foundation Stone’s broader commitment to continually examining how behavioral healthcare can better serve individuals with complex clinical presentations.
Rather than viewing assessment simply as a preliminary step before treatment begins, Foundation Stone sees comprehensive assessment as an active part of treatment itself, one that can shape more individualized and informed decisions about what comes next.
For Foundation Stone, SAT represents an evolution of a philosophy that has guided its programs for years: effective treatment begins not with fitting an individual into a predetermined model, but with taking the time to understand the person first.
Stabilize. Assess. Treat.
Clarity before commitment.
