NEXA Lending Acquires UMortgage as Casa and Kortas Join Forces
PR Newswire
PHOENIX, Aug. 24, 2026
The acquisition brings Anthony Casa to NEXA as an Executive Partner and adds more than $2 billion in annual mortgage volume to the organization.
PHOENIX, Aug. 24, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — NEXA Lending announced today its acquisition of UMortgage, bringing one of the country’s most recognized independent brokerages into the NEXA organization and aligning two prominent leaders around a shared belief: everything starts with the loan officer.
UMortgage founder and CEO Anthony Casa will join NEXA as an Executive Partner, allowing him to continue leading, recruiting and building while UMortgage gains access to NEXA’s scale, technology, expanded lender relationships and national infrastructure.
“When I looked at the technology, lender relationships, infrastructure, economics and scale NEXA has built, I had to ask myself, how am I supposed to compete with this?” Casa said. “They built the best platform, and at some point the question stopped being, ‘Why NEXA?’ and became, ‘Why not NEXA?'”
UMortgage produces more than $2 billion in annual mortgage volume, has built a team of roughly 275 people and has earned recognition on the Inc. 5000 for three consecutive years.
The acquisition allows UMortgage to preserve its brand, marketing and culture while gaining the advantages of NEXA’s broader platform. Organizations operating within NEXA can retain control of the client relationship, keep 100% of the revenue generated through their business, participate in monthly servicing income and access NEXA’s lender network, infrastructure and fully agentic AI platform.
At the same time, leaders can leave behind many of the burdens associated with independently operating a mortgage company, including liability, attorney expenses, audits, compliance complexity and operational headaches.
“The goal is not to take away what made somebody successful,” NEXA CEO Mike Kortas said. “Keep your brand, keep your marketing, keep your people and, most importantly, keep building. What we want to take away are the things that distract great leaders from doing what they are actually great at.”
Casa’s appointment as an Executive Partner is central to the alignment. Executive Partner represents NEXA Lending’s highest level of partnership for proven leaders who bring meaningful production, organizations and influence into the company.
“Executive Partner is not an honorary title. It is a title you earn,” Kortas said. “Anthony brings the experience, influence and production to earn that title on day one, and we believe his leadership will make NEXA and the broker channel stronger.”
For NEXA President Geri Farr, the addition of Casa and UMortgage represents an immediate opportunity to accelerate the organization’s growth.
“This is the kind of alignment that makes the entire organization stronger,” Farr said. “Anthony brings tremendous leadership, production and influence, but more importantly, he shares our obsession with creating better opportunities for loan officers. I am incredibly excited about what we can build together.”
That shared philosophy extends throughout UMortgage’s leadership team.
“What’s best for the LO is best for the company,” said Tyler Hodgson, Founder of NXT Mortgage, a division of UMortgage. “That’s been my philosophy since day one at NXT. It’s the philosophy we built on at UMortgage over almost four years, and it’s the one Mike and the NEXA leadership team share.”
Casa said the response from his top leaders, including Hodgson, Nash Paradise, Jimmy Hobson, Adam West and Ben Bell, has been overwhelmingly supportive. Just as importantly, those leaders and the NEXA team have quickly found common ground, reinforcing Casa’s belief that the alignment works not only strategically, but culturally.
The acquisition also brings together two leaders who were once viewed as staunch adversaries within the broker community.
“Anthony and I are not as different as people may have believed,” Kortas said. “We were both intensely passionate about what we were building and about winning for our people. Once we really understood each other, it became clear that our values and our mission were aligned.”
Casa has spent years advocating for and building within the independent mortgage broker channel, including founding the Association of Independent Mortgage Experts, helping create BRAWL, building UMortgage and launching ARIVE. His decision to bring UMortgage into NEXA represents a significant validation of the platform NEXA has built and the leverage that comes with greater scale.
“You can spend years recreating, or you can recognize when someone has already built something exceptional,” Casa said. “Sometimes surrendering is misunderstood as giving up. I see it as having the confidence to recognize where your time and talent can create the greatest impact.”
Early conversations reinforced that alignment. When Casa asked NEXA National Director of Sales Todd Bitter to describe the company’s vision, the answer was simple: create a blank canvas, remain legal and profitable, and give great people the ability to build. Bitter also played an instrumental role in reconnecting Casa and Kortas, turning an effort to “bury the hatchet” into a larger conversation about what they could build together.
For Casa, the move creates more freedom to focus on recruiting, developing salespeople, building community and advocating for loan officers. For NEXA, adding UMortgage creates additional scale that can be leveraged with lenders, technology companies and industry partners.
“Scale only matters if you use it for something,” Kortas said. “For us, everything comes back to the loan officer. The more leverage we create, the more we can deliver the technology, products, economics and support they want and deserve.”
UMortgage is not leaving behind what made it successful, it is bringing that success into a larger platform built to amplify it, and guess what? You can too.
UMortgage built its name by betting on the broker channel and with NEXA, that bet just got bigger.
