According to departmental records, Patrolman Cuneo was shot and killed on Hanover Street as he confronted an armed suspect. The incident occurred 105 years ago, on August 13, 1921.

At the time of his death, Patrolman Cuneo was 44 years old. He had served with the Boston Police Department for 15 years. His death also marked a significant point as he was the first Italian-born officer to be killed in the line of duty for the BPD.
